DICKINSON, N.D. - Viterbo landed four of the top 10 runners to help lead them to the 2022 North Star Athletic Association Women's Cross Country title. Dickinson State University (N.D.) hosted the 2022 championships at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson.
Viterbo tallied 32 points in the conference meet. Dickinson State took second with 55 points, while Dakota State (S.D.) finished in third place with 82 points. Valley City State (N.D.) and Bellevue (Neb.) both finished with 111 points in fourth place, and Waldorf (Iowa) came in sixth place with 141.
Viterbo will represent the North Star Athletic Association at the NAIA national meet, which is scheduled for Nov. 18 in Talahassee, Fla.
Madison Nelson of Bellevue won the 2022 NSAA Women's Cross Country individual title with a time of 18 minutes, 27 seconds. She was also named as the league's Runner-of-the-Year.
The top 10 individual runners in the conference meet are named to the NSAA All-Conference Team.
Nelson, along with Lindsey Ross of Dakota State, and Grace Timm and Sarah Griffis of Dickinson State all earned individual qualifiers to the NAIA National Championships by finishing as the top four runners not on the winning team. The runners must also finish in the top 15 to qualify.
Don Fritsch was selected as the NSAA Women's Cross-Country Coach-of-the-Year.
The NSAA Champions of Character recipients are Hannah Perkins (Bellevue), Saddie Palmquist (Dakota State), Piper Perez (Dickinson State), Jasmine Barnes (Valley City State), Tori Gerber (Viterbo) and Mindy Barchenger (Waldorf).
