Hot shooting Blue Hawks dominate Kansas Wesleyan

BELLEVUE, NEB. – Four Blue Hawks scored in double figures, and all ten players who entered the game made at least one basket, as Dickinson State dominated Kansas Wesleyan 97-75 on Saturday to move to 2-0 on the season.

DSU got a game-high 26 points on 10-14 shooting from Kayden Steele as they shot a blistering 63 percent (34-54) from the field and 64 percent (7-11) from deep to torch a strong Kansas Wesleyan team. Samantha Oase followed up her monster game on Friday with 15 points on 6-7 shooting, while Katherine Fox scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists for a strong all-around effort. Tinley Pierson was the last double-digit scorer for Dickinson State, as she finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, just missing a double-double. Kyrie Alldredge almost made it five players over 10 points, but she finished with 9 points off the bench in 16 strong minutes.

Kansas Wesleyan started the game hot, jumping out to a 6-0 lead just over a minute into the game, but a 10-4 Blue Hawk run tied the game at 10-10 with 4:00 to go in the quarter. The game was still tied, 17-17, with 20 seconds remaining, but a quick 4-0 run by Steele gave DSU a 21-17 cushion, and a lead that they never relinquished.

The second quarter was all Dickinson State, as the Blue Hawks outscored the Coyotes 27-7 in the frame, led by 10 points from Steele and 7 off the bench from Whitney Edwards to head into the half up by 24.

Dickinson State grew their lead all the way to 31 with just over a minute to go in the third quarter, but the teams played fairly even basketball the rest of the way as the Blue Hawks coasted to their second straight victory to start the year.

"It was a great team victory against a really good Kansas Wesleyan team," said head coach Eric Nelson. "We had four players score in double figures and got contributions from our whole team today. We have a lot to clean up, but it was a good weekend for us ending 2-0."
