Blue Hawks fall to Mayville State in four sets

DICKINSON, N.D. – Another large crowd gathered in Scott Gym, and Dickinson State tried to make a furious rally, but Mayville State came out on top, 3-1, on Friday evening.

After a back-and-forth first set went the way of the Comets, Mayville State grabbed control of the match with a 25-13 win in set two. However, the Blue Hawks weren't done as a furious rally late in the third set extended the match.

Down 21-17 in the third set it appeared that MSU was going to close out the sweep, but a kill by McKenzie Moser and a pair of Comet errors got DSU to within one, 21-20. Again Mayville State appeared to take control, scoring the next two points, but three straight errors by the visitors knotted the score at 23-23.

Moser again came through with a kill to make it 24-23 Blue Hawks, and 25-24, before Bailey Pearcy clinched the set for Dickinson State with a kill of her own.

A kill by Brooklyn Wyllie briefly gave Dickinson State the lead in the fourth set as they pushed to extend the match further, but a 9-1 Mayville State run put the Comets ahead for good.

Moser led the Blue Hawks with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Wyllie (7 kills), Madi Wahl (5 kills), and Makyah Albrecht (5 kills) also had productive nights. Haydin Henschel had a career high 20 digs and Pearcy had 24 assists for Dickinson State.
