Blue Hawks get strong offensive performances but fall at GoSarpy.com Classic

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Madi Wahl and Haydin Henschel both turned in their first double-digit kill performances of the year, but the Blue Hawks fell twice on Friday at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic in Bellevue. Dickinson State fell 3-0 to both Loyola University New Orleans and Avila University to start the weekend.

In game one against Loyola, McKenzie Moser led the Blue Hawks with 11 kills while Wahl chipped in 7 on .211 hitting. Bailey Pearcy collected a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs, while Henschel matched her with 11 digs.

The Blue Hawks held leads in each of the three sets, including 20-17 late in the first set, but the Wolfpack consistently put together runs to overtake the lead each time.

In game two, Wahl had her best match of the season, pounding 10 kills at an impressive .444 clip and Henschel added 11 on solid .229 hitting, but Avila hit at a .316 clip as a team to storm past DSU.

Pearcy piloted the Blue Hawk offense again with 34 assists while also adding 5 digs and 3 kills. Moser led the DSU defense with 11 digs to go along with her 8 kills which marked the first time this season she was held to single digit kills in a match.

The Blue Hawks will continue their time in Bellevue with another pair of games on Saturday, September 2 when they take on Saint Mary and Central Methodist.
