Volleyball can't keep up with #9 Viterbo

LA CROSSE, WI - The Dickinson State volleyball team (2-13, 0-2 NSAA) put up a fight but were unable to get past #9 Viterbo University (12-5, 2-0 NSAA) in La Crosse, WI on Friday night. The V-Hawks took the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-23).

The Blue Hawks jumped out to an early lead in set one, but the nationally ranked visitors from Wisconsin were able to fight back and take a 14-13 lead and never trailed again for the rest of the match. DSU made things interesting in the third set, coming to within 24-23 on a Viterbo hitting error, but were unable to complete the comeback, ending the match.

Mackenna Johnson tallied 9 kills to lead all Blue Hawk attackers, while Katie Collum added 8 and McKenzie Moser chipped in 6. Bailey Pearcy secured a double-double with 24 assists and 14 digs, leading DSU in both categories.

Overall, the V-Hawks out hit the Blue Hawks .210 to .080. Viterbo used stiffling defense at the net to outblock DSU 10-4.

The Blue Hawks will make the drive to Forest City, Iowa to face NSAA foe Waldorf University at 12:00 MT on Saturday.
