VCSU tops Blue Hawks in volleyball conference opener

VALLEY CITY, ND – The Dickinson State University volleyball team fell to the Vikings of Valley City State University (5-7, 1-0) 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-15), on Wednesday night. The loss moves the Blue Hawks to 2-12 (0-1 NSAA) on the season.

DSU struggled to get much going offensively in the North Star Athletic Association opener for both teams. Valley City controlled the match for most of the night and never let the Blue Hawks gain any momentum. After a second set that saw DSU take an early lead, VCSU stormed back to take the set, and raced to a decisive victory in set three. Katie Collum led the Blue Hawks with 8 kills, while Madi Wahl and McKenzie Moser added 6 each. Bailey Pearcy added 20 assists, while Jenna Swope gathered 25 digs to lead Dickinson State.

Overall, the Vikings outhit the Blue Hawks .222 to .037. DSU committed 24 errors to VCSU's 14, while Valley City scored 5 aces to Dickinson State's zero.

DSU will continue NSAA play next weekend, September 23 and 24, when they take on #9 Viterbo University on Friday, and Waldorf University on Saturday.
