Volleyball splits again to go 2-2 over the weekend

BELLEVUE, NE - The Dickinson State Volleyball team (2-6, 0-0) split for the second consecutive day to secure a 2-2 record in the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, NE. DSU took down Avila University 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20), and fell to McPherson College 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-22).

Game 1

The Blue Hawks used their best hitting game of the year to take down Avila University in straight sets, 3-0, to kick off day 2 in Bellevue, NE. DSU never trailed at any point in the match as they put together their best all-around performance of the young season.

Madi Wahl continued her breakout sophomore campaign with 12 kills on a season-best .429 attack percentage. McKenzie Moser added 9 kills of her own, Brooklyn Wyllie chipped in 7, and Jacklyn Belfourd and Haydin Henschel put down 6 to round out the Blue Hawk offense.

Bailey Pearcy added 38 assists to come just under her season-high of 39, set Friday against Olivet Nazarene. Jenna Swope anchored the defense with 15 digs while Henschel added 10 of her own.

Overall, the Blue Hawks outhit the Eagles .243 to .071. DSU held a 5-0 edge on aces and a 5-2 advantage on blocks.

Game 2

Dickinson State had its offense held in check as it fell to pre-season (RV) McPherson College in the final game of the weekend, 3-0.

The Bulldogs from McPherson, KS, outhit the Blue Hawks .255 to -.019 to sweep DSU's final match. Madi Wahl led the Blue Hawks with 8 kills, Bailey Pearcy had 20 assists and 9 digs, and McKenzie Moser chipped in 6 kills to lead the Blue Hawks.

The Blue Hawk volleyball team returns to action next weekend, September 9-10, in Havre, MT for the Frontier Crossover Classic. They will take on Montana-Western, #13 Montana Tech, #10 University of Providence, and Montana State-Northern.
