Dickinson, N.D. - The Blue Hawk Games proved to be a strong showing for the Blue Hawks, with the women's team claiming the top spot with an impressive 242 points and the men's team finishing second overall with 164 points.
One the women's side, senior Jewel Olson led the way with a runner-up finish in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 25.12 seconds. The Blue Hawks also made a strong statement in the 800 meters, where Mia Handran took third (2:22.59), Morgan Aune placed fifth (2:26.03), and Natalie Lile secured seventh (2:27.67). Lauren Taylor claimed a win in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:04.30, while freshman Jazmyn CarryWater earned third place in 23:53.25.
In the hurdle events, Kyley Barnett captured the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 1:03.47, hitting the NAIA "B" standard, and moving to 16th in the NAIA this season. Kaitlyn McColly followed close behind in third (1:04.44), and Zoey Heid finished seventh (1:09.71). In the 100-meter hurdles, Heid also placed fifth (16.25), with Peyton McLaughlin and Taytum Stuhr taking seventh and eighth, respectively. The Blue Hawk relay teams were in action, as the 4x100 group of Barnett, Olson, McColly, and Faith Brennan recorded a time of 48.64, while the 4x400 team of Barnett, McColly, Olson, and Handran finished in 4:27.31.
DSU's field athletes were a force, starting with Adarra Hagelund, who cleared 1.71m (5' 7.25") to win the high jump. Taylynd Stuhr added a third-place mark of 1.55m. In the pole vault, Madison Wahl took first with a 3.65m (11' 11.75") vault, followed by Tayl. Stuhr in second at 3.20m. In the jumps, Brennan won the triple jump with a leap of 12.09m (39' 8") and finished fourth in the long jump (5.43m). Hagelund and Abby Talkington added fifth and sixth in the triple jump, respectively.
DSU's throwers delivered a sweep of the podium in multiple events. In the shot put, Kori Nagel claimed the title with a mark of 14.33m, while Chloe Gunderson secured second place with a throw of 14.05m - a mark that ranks her sixth in the NAIA this season — and Taylor Laumeyer rounded out the top three with a toss of 13.10m. Tia Dees and Alician Garcia tied for fifth at 11.88m. Laumeyer bounced back to win the discus with a personal-best throw of 49.62m, a mark that moves her up to No. 2 in the NAIA this season, followed closely by Nagel (46.84m) and C. Gunderson (42.84m). DSU swept the top five spots in the event, with Rebecca Eacker (4th), Bailey Hofland (5th), Dees (7th), and Klaire Gunderson (8th) also scoring.
Kori Nagel claimed another event title in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.54m (182-02), a new personal best that ranks her No. 2 nationally in the NAIA this season. Taylor Laumeyer followed in second with a personal-best throw of 51.00m (167-04), moving up to No. 15 on the NAIA list, while Rebecca Eacker rounded out the top three with a PR of 48.50m (159-01). Freshman Codi Nagle capped the day with a win in the javelin, hitting an NAIA "A" standard with her throw of 43.33m (142' 2"), moving her into 5th in the NAIA this season.
On the men's side, freshman Christian Bowden led the way on the track, taking 5th in the 100 meters (10.84) and anchoring the 4x100 relay team—alongside Kohbe Smith, Quentin Lewis, and Jackson Whicker—that raced to a 2nd-place finish in 41.88. In the 800 and 1500 meters, Hudson Atkinson secured top spots with a 4th-place finish (2:01.77) and a 3rd-place mark (4:05.62), respectively. Caleb Sarsland dominated the 5000 meters, winning the event in 15:51.67.
In the hurdles, freshman Maximus Kadrmas claimed 2nd in the 110m hurdles (15.76) and 7th in the 400m hurdles (57.29), while Jarett Schuchard and Mathew Hansen also scored in both events.
DSU athletes showed out in the field events as well. Galen Brantley III led the charge with a win in the shot put (15.47m) and 3rd in the hammer throw. Dylan Dahlgren took home victories in the hammer (54.87m) and placed top six in both the discus and shot put. Holden Will, Jeremy Harms, and Andy Williams swept 2nd through 4th in the pole vault, while Ty Leischner finished 2nd in the high jump.
