
Bismarck, N.D. — Dickinson State track and field opened their 2024-25 Indoor season at the Mike Thorson Open over the weekend. The Blue Hawks had several performances stand out, with multiple national meet qualifiers.
Corbin Harris dominated the field events, taking first place in both the shot put with a throw of 15.09m and the weight throw with 16.10m, both securing 'A' standard national qualifiers.
In distance, Caleb Sarsland took the top spot in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:55.43, also an 'A' standard national qualifier.
The 4x400 relay team, composed of Quentin Lewis, Jarett Schuchard, Carl Askins, and Hayden Lockie, finished third with a time of 3:36.11, which was enough to achieve 'B' standard national qualifier status.
On the women's side, Faith Brennan won the triple jump with a leap of 12.20 meters, earning an 'A' standard national qualifier. Madison Wahl cleared 3.60 meters in the pole vault to take first place, achieving a 'B' standard national qualifier. Chloe Gunderson dominated the shot put with a throw of 13.19 meters.
Kaitlyn McColly finished second in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds, also qualifying for nationals with a 'B' standard. In the relays, the team comprising of Kyley Barnett, Kaitlyn McColly, Mia Hadran, and Jewel Olson, ran to a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:14.50, securing another 'B' standard national berth. Gunderson was also runner-up in the weight throw with a distance of 15.57 meters.
Third places were secured by Morgan Aune in the 800 meters at 2:28.96, the team of Peyton McLaughlin, Jane Harrison, Zoey Heid, and Morgan Aune in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:25.60, Alician Garcia in the weight throw at 15.30 meters, and Garcia in the shot put with a throw of 12.46 meters.
