Mayville, N.D. – Dickinson State struggled on both ends of the floor Friday night, falling to Mayville State 95-59 at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
The Blue Hawks (7-15, 2-9 NSAA) could not overcome a slow start, as Mayville State (16-7, 6-5 NSAA) took control early. Dickinson State trailed 31-18 after the first quarter and struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm.
Kayden Steele led the Blue Hawks with 24 points, hitting 4-of-7 from three-point range. Katherine Fox added 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Samantha Oase contributed six points and five rebounds. Her six points pushed her just over the 1,000 point mark in her college career, as she now sits at 1,001 total points between Black Hills State and Dickinson State.
Dickinson State shot 29 percent from the field, including 7-of-27 from beyond the arc.
Mayville State capitalized on Dickinson State's shooting struggles, connecting on 48.5 percent of its shots and outscoring the Blue Hawks 42-20 in the paint. The Comets extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Dickinson State 28-9 to put the game out of reach.
Mackenzie Hughes paced Mayville State with 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Alex Page added a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Jes Mertens scored 16 points with seven made free throws.
Dickinson State committed 15 turnovers, leading to 19 points for the Comets. The Blue Hawks converted 84.2 percent of their free throws but struggled to generate second-chance opportunities, finishing with just five points off offensive rebounds.
