Blue Hawk women drop tough battle with #13 Mayville State

Dickinson, N.D. – Dickinson State kept it close until the last few minutes, but #13 Mayville State was too much to overcome as DSU fell, 71-54, on Saturday afternoon.

Whitney Edwards led the Blue Hawks with 10 points, as Samantha Oase and Katherine Fox both sat much of the game in foul trouble. All five of DSU's starters had at least 3 fouls, with Fox fouling out in the fourth quarter.

DSU continued their trend of hot starts, racing out to a 12-2 lead and forcing a Mayville State timeout just five minutes into the game. After the timeout, however, MSU responded with a 20-5 run to close the quarter and take a five-point lead.

In the second quarter, Mayville State expanded their lead to 11 and it stayed around that mark for most of the second ten minutes, as they took a 38-30 lead into the half.

The Blue Hawks would not go away in the second half, clawing all the way back to within two, 44-42, and a basket by Edwards with 2 minutes left in the third quarter, but they would get no closer as the national ranked Comets held strong and continued to build their lead the rest of the way.

MSU held a huge advantage in free throws for the game, going 24-28 from the charity stripe while DSU had just four attempts, making three of them. Hannah LaBree had a game-high nine rebounds off the bench, while Heather LaBree had a game-high seven assists.
