Dickinson, N.D. – Dickinson State got 18 points from Katherine Fox but a cold shooting night for the rest of the starting lineup was too much to overcome as the Blue Hawks fell, 71-56, to (RV) Jamestown on Tuesday.
Hannah LaBree scored 11 points on 4-6 shooting and Kyrie Alldredge added 10 on 4-5, as the Blue Hawk bench outscored their counterparts 24-17, but leading scorers Samantha Oase and Kayden Steele were held to just seven combined points on 2-20 shooting.
After Jamestown scored the first basket of the game, Dickinson State responded an 8-0 run thanks to threes from Fox and Alldredge to take the early lead. The lead stretched to 12-4 on another bucket by Alldredge with 1:07 left in the quarter, and DSU led 14-7 after the first frame.
Tinley Pierson and Hannah LaBree knocked down back-to-back shots to start the second quarter as the Blue Hawk lead grew to a game-high 12 points and stayed there until there were just over six minutes remaining in the half. At that point, Jamestown responded with a 17-8 run to close the half as the teams headed into the break with Dickinson State clinging to a 29-26 lead.
The second half was controlled by the Jimmies and they gained their first lead since 2-0 on a three pointer with 5:49 left to go in the third. The triple sparked a UJ run that ended up with a 25-13 quarter in favor of Jamestown that flipped the scoreboard and put the visitors in control, 51-42, heading into the final quarter.
DSU made a couple of runs in the final ten minutes but could never get back within true striking distance as Jamestown continued to make tough shot after tough shot and the Blue Hawks struggled to make shots down the stretch.
Both teams took good care of the ball, only turning it over 11 times each, and each squad turned those giveaways into 12 points. The rebounding battle was also close, with Jamestown just edging out the Blue Hawks 38-34. The big difference in the game came at the free throw line, as UJ went 14-16 while Dickinson State went just 6-7.
