Jamestown, N.D. – Dickinson State swept a doubleheader in Jamestown Saturday, defeating Dakota Wesleyan 6-5 before rolling past Mayville State 11-3.
In the opener, Dickinson State (2-1) overcame a five-run first inning by Dakota Wesleyan (4-1) to claim the victory. The Blue Hawks responded in the second when Allyson Farrington doubled to left, clearing the bases and cutting the deficit to 5-3. Dickinson State pulled even in the third, with Bailey Hansen driving in a run before Karissa Comer scored on a wild pitch.
The decisive run came in the sixth when Celina Wilharm lifted a sacrifice fly, bringing home Jai Maddox-Hernandez for a 6-5 lead. Alison Eldridge took over in relief and shut down the Tigers, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out three. Hope Fath started for Dickinson State, surrendering five runs in the first before Eldridge came on to secure the win.
Farrington led the offense with two hits and three RBIs. Hansen and Wilharm each added an RBI, while Maddox-Hernandez and Ashlee Potter each scored twice.
In the second game, the Blue Hawks (3-1) took control early against Mayville State (0-5), scoring in five of the six innings played. Wilharm led the way, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the sixth. Farrington added two hits and scored twice, while Conway and Hansen each drove in runs. Comer contributed a two-run single in the third, extending the Blue Hawks' lead to 6-1.
Reannan Butler started in the circle, allowing one run on five hits over three innings, striking out five. Ava Jahner picked up the win in relief, striking out six over three innings while allowing two runs.
Mayville State managed 10 hits but struggled with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 on base. Tulla drove in two runs for the Comets.
