Blue Hawks drop four on Tuesday and Wednesday

Tucson, Ariz. – Dickinson State softball dropped four games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Arizona. The Blue Hawks fell 7-0 and 8-0 on Tuesday before dropping their Wednesday contests by scores of 6-4 and 11-1.

Game One – CU 7 DSU 0

The Blue Hawks were shutout by Concordia (Neb.) 7-0 in game one on Tuesday, as DSU did not collect their first hit until the sixth inning. Cassy Loa and Dallis Mitchell each had singles for the Blue Hawks in the loss. Mitchell also worked a walk as the only other DSU baserunner.

Game Two – BC 8 DSU 0

Briar Cliff (Neb.) used a five run third inning to pull away from DSU, as they were again held scoreless. Jai Maddox-Hernandez collected the only hit for the Blue Hawks and also stole a base. Jessa Duggan and Ashlee Potter both walked as DSU again struggled to get much going offensively on the day.

Game Three – BM 6 DSU 4

The bats got rolling on Wednesday, as DSU scattered 10 hits, and committed no defensive errors, but Benedictine-Mesa got six hits from the top of their order to edge out the Blue Hawks, 6-4.

Cassy Loa and Kara Conway each went 3-4 to lead DSU, but DSU struggled to get the big hit as they drove in only two runs on the day, taking advantage of four errors by BenU to score their other two runs.

After falling behind 6-1 in the first four innings, Reannan Butler helped to right the ship by throwing three solid innings of relief, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three and walking none.

Game One – NWC 11 DSU 1

Northwestern (Iowa) scored one run in each of the first six innings, and five in the seventh, and took advantage of six Blue Hawk errors to earn the win on Wednesday.

HaiLeigh Davis, Karissa Comer, and Mitchell all had singles for the Blue Hawks, but that was all they would manage on offense, scoring their lone run when Davis stole third and advanced to home in the second inning.
