Blue Hawks split to close out weekend in Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa – Dickinson State split a pair of games on Saturday to close out their weekend at the American State Bank Dome Classic in Iowa. The Blue Hawks defeated Morningside, 4-2, in game one before falling, 10-2, to Dordt in their final game of the weekend.

Game One – DSU 4 MU 2

Dickinson State did all their offensive damage early, getting an RBI double from Karissa Comer in the second inning, and a bases-clearing triple from HaiLeigh Davis in the third, to take a 4-1 advantage after three innings.

That was all the run support that starting pitcher Alison Eldridge would need, as she went the full seven innings allowing just two runs (one earned), on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

DSU collected just six hits on the game, but took advantage of their five walks to earn the victory.

Game Two – DU 10 DSU 2

The Blue Hawks were locked into a pitcher's dual with host school Dordt (IA) through four and a half innings, with the score locked at 2-2, but the Defenders scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trigger the mercy rule and end the game.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, DSU responded in the third when Cassy Loa led off the inning with a double and scored one batter later on an RBI triple from Mitchell. Bailey Hansen followed with a hard sacrifice fly to right field to score Mitchell and give Dickinson State their first lead of the game.

An RBI groundout from Dordt in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game at two before their explosion in the fifth inning.
