Blue Hawk bats silenced after game one in series loss against Bellevue

Sagan Osborne | Dickinson State Sports Information Director

Bellevue, Neb. – Tough losses plagued Dickinson State as they fell 13-12, 8-0, 3-2, and 5-0 in a four game NSAA series at Bellevue University.

GAME 1

The Blue Hawks scored 13 runs on 16 hits, but an 8-1 run by Bellevue over the last four innings erased the early DSU lead.

Kara Conway, Ari Martinez, and Hailey Enriquez all homered for Dickinson State as they built an early 12-4 lead by the top of the third inning. Rhea Paiva (2-5), Conway (3-5), Martinez (3-3), and Dallis Mitchell (3-5) all had multi-hit games for the Blue Hawks, as DSU pounded out eight extra base hits in the game.

Unearned runs proved to be the difference in the game as three Blue Hawk errors led to four unearned Bruin runs, including the three final BU runs.

GAME 2

Rhea Paiva continued her strong day, going 2-4, but the Dickinson State bats were stifled in game two as Bellevue won 8-0 in five innings. Kara Conway and Hailey Enriquez picked up the other two DSU hits in the loss.

GAME 3

An RBI double by Hailey Enriquez and a solo home run by Ari Martinez gave DSU a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Bellevue scored two runs in the fifth and another in the seventh for the walk off victory in game one on Saturday.

Six different Blue Hawks collected hits in the game and Dallis Mitchell had an efficient game in the circle going 6.2 innings and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, but DSU was unable to get any rallies going offensively in the pitcher's duel.

GAME 4

Bellevue was again able to stifle the DSU bats in game two on Saturday, holding them to just three hits again as the Bruins won 5-0 to complete the series sweep.

Rhea Paiva and Kara Conway singled while Madeline Peralta doubled for the Blue Hawks who only had two other base runners on the game (walks to Peralta and Cassidy Venner).
