TUCSON, Ariz. – A walk off win in game one gave Dickinson State softball a split on the day in Tucson on Sunday. The Blue Hawks won game one 3-2 over St. Clair College before falling 5-2 to Doane University in game two.

GAME 1

A walk off error in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Dickinson State the victory over St. Clair College in game one on Sunday. Cassidy Venner lined one to center field that was mishandled allowing Kamryn Kuntz to score the winning run.

After SCC scored the first run of the game in the top half of the fourth inning, the Blue Hawks immediately responded with two runs of their own in the home half. Dallis Mitchell drove a one-out double to get things going and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Kaitlyn Rizo walked giving DSU runners at the corners. A passed ball allowed the runs to move up and Mitchell to score tying the score at 1-1 before an error on a bunt by Bailey Pepper allowed Rizo to score giving DSU the lead. SCC scored with two-outs in the seventh inning to tie the game and set up the walk off win.

Arjana Eilers earned the win in relief for DSU after going 2.2 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit while walking two and striking out three. Alexa Kappel started in the circle for DSU going 4.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 5 and striking out 4.

GAME 2

DSU was held to just three hits and two walks in game two as they fell, 5-2, to Doane University. After falling behind 1-0 early, the Blue Hawks were able to tie the game Dallis Mitchell scored on a ball hit by Rhea Paiva that was misplayed by the Tiger defense in the third inning. The second Blue Hawk run scored on a Hailey Enriquez single in the sixth inning that scored Kamryn Kuntz who had reached via the walk earlier in the inning, but two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings provided Doane with all the insurance they needed to clinch the victory.
