DSU Rodeo competes at Cyclone Stampede

AMES, Iowa – The Blue Hawk rodeo team made the long drive down to Ames, Iowa to compete in their first rodeo of the spring season. There were 24 competing members that traveled to Iowa to represent the DSU rodeo team at the Cyclone Stampede. Overall, it was a great weekend for both the men's and women's teams, and every team member competed very well. In the event, the women's team placed first, while the men's team finished in fourth.

Women's Team –

  • Junior cowgirl, Kailyn Groves, set the bar very high to start off the spring season. This cowgirl ended the rodeo as the Breakaway Roping Champion, 3rd in the Goat Tying, and was the All-Around Champion. Freshman Kelly Bang finished the rodeo strong by placing 7th in the Breakaway Roping and 2nd in Barrel Racing. Placing in two events was senior Lacey Forsness, who ended up 4th in the Breakaway Roping and 9th in Barrel Racing. Sophomore Chloe Munsen finished the weekend in 3rd place in the Breakaway Roping, while senior Morgan Foss finished 6th in the same event.

Men's Team –

  • On the men's side, senior cowboy, Tommy Hall, finished the rodeo with a 2nd place in Team Roping. Senior Sterling Lee was 6th in the Steer Wrestling, while junior Landon Sivertsen placed 3rd in Steer Wrestling. Sophomore Clay Gerhardt came home with a 5th place finish in the Tie-Down Roping, while freshman Tanner Jarrett placed 4th in the Bareback Riding, and senior Owen Gustafson placed 9th in Team Roping.

Up Next –

  • The Blue Hawks are off to a great start to the 2022 spring rodeo season. All members are competing strong and representing DSU very well. The rodeo team will head to Brookings, South Dakota, April 8-9, to compete in the second rodeo of the spring season. Keep track of the Blue Hawk rodeo team as they compete in the Great Plains Region.
