DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University rodeo team finished up their fall season at home September 30-October 2, 2021. The Blue Hawk Stampede drew a crowd from all over, hosting 14 different collegiate rodeo teams. Fortunately, multiple Blue Hawk members had a successful weekend at the double rodeo.

In rodeo number one, the men's team placed second and the women's team placed fifth.

On the women's side of things, senior Lacey Forsness (SR/Gladstone, ND) was the champion breakaway roper. Senior Morgan Foss (SR/Harwood, ND) was the champion team roping header. Finishing in the barrel racing was freshman Kelly Bang (FR/Killdeer, ND) who tied for 10/11th place.

On the men's side was freshman Clay Schmalz (FR/Bowman, ND) who placed second in the team roping (header). Also, in the team roping was the DSU duo of freshman Laine Isaak (FR/Dodge, ND) (header) and junior Landon Sivertsen (JR/Ree Heights, SD) (heeler) who placed third. Senior Sterling Lee (SR/Rhame, ND) was successful in the steer wrestling where he finished in 5th place.

There were two DSU cowboys who competed strong and placed in two events. Sophomore Clay Gerhardt (SO/Mandan, ND) placed 5th in the calf roping and 7th in the team roping (header). On the heeling side was Clay's partner, freshman Trey Bohlman (FR/Richardton, ND), who placed 7th in the team roping (heeler) and 7th in the calf roping. Senior Owen Gustafson (SR/Browning, MT) also tied one down in the calf roping to place 8th. On the roughstock side of things, freshman Cody Booth (FR/Dickinson, ND) placed 7th in the bull riding.

The Blue Hawks did not weaken heading into the second rodeo of the weekend. The men's team placed second and the women's team placed second.

Competing in the goat tying was junior Kailyn Groves (JR/Faith, SD) who placed 2nd. Morgan Foss roped fast to place 4th in the breakaway roping. Junior Karly Bang (JR/Killdeer, ND) ran fast to place 9th in the barrel racing for the second rodeo.

Sterling Lee made it back in the team roping (header) to finish 5th in the team roping. Landon Sivertsen competed strong and was fortunate enough to place in two events where he was 6th in the calf roping and 1st in the steer wrestling. Sophomore Jory Boote (SO/Binford, ND) was also a multiple event cowboy who finished 2nd in the calf roping and 8th in the steer wrestling.

The roughstock rider for the second rodeo was freshman Tanner Jarrett (FR/South Heart, ND) who placed 3rd in the bareback riding. Senior Thomas Hall (SR/Dunn Center, ND) roped two feet in the team roping to place 3rd. Clay Gerhardt (header) and Trey Bohlman (heeler) stayed strong in the team roping by placing 6th, while Clay placed 5th in the calf roping and Trey placed 9th in the calf roping.

The Blue Hawks finished out their fall season on a strong note. Both men's and women's teams are currently sitting second in the region, along with numerous DSU individuals sitting within the top 15 for each event. The rodeo team will now take a much-needed break before resuming their college season in the spring. Great Plains Region Spring 2022 schedule is still to be released, but the Blue Hawks will likely be back on the rodeo trail in early April.
