DSU Rodeo shines at MPCC Stampede

DICKINSON, ND- The Blue Hawk rodeo team traveled to North Platte, NE for a double rodeo from September 16-18, 2021. There were 29 competing members who traveled to Nebraska to represent the Dickinson State University Rodeo Team. Overall, it was a great weekend for both the men's and women's teams at the MPCC Stampede Rodeo.

In rodeo number one, the men's team placed second and the women's team placed fourth overall. Competing members who placed within the first rodeo included sophomore Jory Boote (SO/Binford, ND) who was second in the tie down roping, second in the team roping (heeler), and was the Men's All-Around Champion.

Freshman cowboy, Tanner Jarrett (FR/South Heart, ND) took home first place in the bareback riding. Senior Sterling Lee (SR/Rhame, ND) was second in the steer wrestling. Junior Landon Sivertsen (JR/Ree Heights, SD) placed in multiple events which included fifth in the tie down roping and fifth in the team roping (heeler) with his DSU partner freshman Laine Isaak (FR/Dodge, ND) (header).

On the cowgirl's side, junior Karly Bang (JR/Killdeer, ND) won the breakaway roping, while her younger sister, freshman Kelly Bang (FR/Killdeer, ND) was seventh in the barrel racing. Kailyn Groves (JR/Faith, SD) finished out the first rodeo strong by placing fifth in the breakaway roping.

The Blue Hawks stayed strong throughout the second rodeo of the weekend. As a team, the men placed third overall and the women's team placed first.

Freshman cowgirl, Kelly Bang had another great rodeo by splitting first/second in the breakaway roping, placing second in the barrel racing, and was the Women's All-Around Champion.

Senior Morgan Foss (SR/Harwood, ND) roped tough by splitting first/second place with her DSU teammate in the breakaway roping. The two lonesome goat tiers tied fast in the second rodeo to place. Kailyn Groves split second/third in the goat tying, while junior Sage Gabriel (JR/Quinn, SD) place seventh.

Senior Lacey Forsness (SR/Gladstone, ND) roped her way into the short-go and finished off the weekend in eighth place in the breakaway roping. Junior cowgirl, Rachel Schumacher (JR/Hazelton, ND ) ended up ninth in the team roping. Freshman Laney Johnson (FR/Havre, MT) placed fourth in the barrel racing.

DSU also had multiple men place within the second rodeo. Tanner Jarrett once again took home first place in the bareback riding. Landon Sivertsen came back strong to win the tie down roping. Sterling Lee roped fast to place third in the team roping (header).

Also, in the team roping was Thomas Hall (SR/Dunn Center, ND) placing eighth. Sophomore Clay Gerhardt (SO/Mandan, ND) finished tenth place in the tie down roping to finish out the second rodeo.

The Blue Hawks are off to a robust start to the 2021-2022 rodeo season. All members are competing strong and representing DSU very well. The rodeo team will head to Fort Dodge, Iowa, September 24-25, 2021, to compete in their fourth rodeo of the fall season.
