Blue Hawk Rodeo competes at Falcon Frontier Days

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State Blue Hawks Rodeo Team competed at the first college rodeo of the fall season September 10-11, 2021. The Blue Hawks made the drive across a couple of states to make it to the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo in River Falls, Wisconsin.

There were 29 competing members who traveled to Wisconsin to represent the Dickinson State Rodeo Team. Every team member did well and represented DSU with such great manner! Fortunately, there were a few Blue Hawks who really excelled in the rodeo arena.

At her first ever college rodeo, freshman Kelly Bang (FR/Killdeer, ND) really set the bar high! This cowgirl ended her first rodeo as the Breakaway Roping Champion, split 4th/5th place in the Barrel Racing, and was the All-Around Cowgirl!

Another champion on the team was sophomore Jory Boote (SO/Binford, ND), who came home as the Team Roping (heeler) Champion! Senior Morgan Foss (SR/Harwood, ND) roped fast to receive 4th place in the Team Roping (header).

Placing in two events was junior Kailyn Groves (JR/Faith, SD) who finished 7th place in the Barrel Racing and 8th place in the Breakaway Roping. Freshman Tanner Jarrett (FR/South Heart, ND) covered two of his broncs to place 3rd in the Bareback Riding.

DSU's triple threat for the weekend was senior Sterling Lee (SR/Rhame, ND) who placed 4th in the Steer Wrestling, 6th in the Calf Roping, and split 10th/11th in the Team Roping. Senior Thomas Hall (SR/Dunn Center, ND) came back in two events to end his first rodeo placing 5th in the Team Roping and 7th in the Calf Roping.

Another DSU cowgirl to place was senior Lacey Forsness (SR/Gladstone, ND) who ended up 10th place in the Breakaway Roping. To finish out the individual success was DSU's pair of team ropers, sophomore Clay Gerhardt (SO/Mandan, ND) and freshman Trey Bohlman (FR/Richardton, ND), who split 10th/11th place in the Team Roping.

Overall, the DSU Women's Team brought home 1st place and the Men's Team brought home 4th Place! The Blue Hawks will travel to North Platte, Nebraska, September 16-18, 2021, for a double rodeo!
