Blue Hawk cross country sweeps North Star Championships

La Crosse, Wis. – Dickinson State Cross Country swept the North Star Athletic Association Championships on Friday with the women winning by an 11-point margin, while the men narrowly edged out Dakota State by one point.

Emberlyn Hoffman-Gaschk led the DSU women, finishing 4th, while Natalie Lile (6th) and Lauren Taylor (10th) gave DSU three in the top ten. Elizabeth Widmer (12th), Alexius Miller (13th), Loli Jarrett (24th), Morgan Aune (28th), Jazmyn CarryWater (36th), and Piper Perez (DNF) rounded out the championship team.

Caleb Sarsland led the men, diving across the finish line to finish in second place and essentially clinching the title for the Blue Hawks. Fynn Krenz (5th), Will Flowers (7th) and Cole Jensen (9th) all finished in the top ten for Dickinson State to help edge out a Dakota State team that had seven finishers in the top 15. Logan Ackman (15th), Griffin Obrigewitch (16th), Tyrel Ackman (27th), Garin Anderson (33rd), Justin Kathrein (42nd), and Austin Lehman (43rd) rounded out the men's team.

"It's a great day to be a Hawk!" said head coach Shayne Wittkopp. "I'm so happy for these athletes, they've worked so hard over the course this season and in seasons past. Programs are built over time and today was a product of their hard work and belief in each other. I can't express how happy I am for the team."
