Bismarck, N.D. —Dickinson State defeated future conference rival Bismarck Stat, 34-15, on Thursday evening.
The Blue Hawks started strong with Wyatt Engwicht securing a forfeit victory at 125 pounds. Jose Gonzalez followed suit, pinning Jack Coles of Bismarck State at 133 pounds in 2 minutes and 11 seconds. Despite a close contest at 141 pounds where Ethan Kuntz of Bismarck edged out Riley Davis 4-3, Dickinson State regained momentum with Kale Corley pinning Colton King at 165 pounds in just 1 minute and 33 seconds.
Dickinson State had success in the upper weights as well. Bradlee Shaw secured a major decision over Izac Turner at 174 pounds with a score of 14-2, and Jackson King also won by forfeit at 184 pounds. The match concluded with Seth Suvak from Dickinson State pinning Haaken Jacobsen of Bismarck State at 285 pounds in another swift 1 minute and 33 seconds.
Despite Bismarck State showing some resistance, particularly with wins by Brendan Winn-Kelley at 149 pounds and Dillon Spaulding at 157 pounds, they couldn't overturn the lead established by the Blue Hawks. Isaiah Horan from Bismarck State managed a technical fall victory over Grayson Beaudrie at 197 pounds, but it was not enough to close the gap.
