Blue Hawk wrestlers fall to MSU-Northern in Havre

Havre, Mont. – Dickinson State picked up four victories, including Jackson King upsetting national #2 Austin Vanek at 184 pounds, but the Blue Hawks fell, 32-16, against Montana State-Northern in their first dual of the season. Jose Gonzalez, Wyatt Engwicht and Dante Venema. After opening the dual with three straight victories, the Blue Hawks were unable to get much else going before King's big win, as the Lights pulled away for the victory.

"The guys wrestled hard tonight," said head coach Justin Schlecht. "They wrestled against some great competition and won some big matches and fought in some battle matches. That's what duals come down to is bonus point scenarios.  As a team they recognize they have a high standard and need to improve in a few areas.  Jackson King came away with a big match win defeating the #2 ranked NAIA wrestler with a major decision.  I think matches like this really help Jackson trust his potential and the opportunities in front of him.  We are excited to have some time to make some adjustments before the holidays and then get right back into competing in early January."
