DICKINSON – Dickinson State wrestling hosted the annual Tyler Plummer Classic on Saturday in Weinbergen Gym. The classic is named after DSU Alum, Tyler Plummer, who was a big part of DSU Wrestling for many years and served as an assistant coach. Tyler Passed away on January 25, 2012. Plummer played a major part in directing the former "Dickinson Classic", leading to it being renamed in his honor after his passing. Championship awards are in the form of a Belt Buckle handed out by Tyler's Family.
In a strong showing for the Blue Hawks, five wrestlers earned trips to the finals with two athletes taking home titles. Wyatt Engwitch (125) and Konrich Speelmon (197) emerged victorious to win the commemorative belt buckle that signifies a victory in the Tyler Plummer Classic.
"Our guys wrestled well today," said head coach Justin Schlecht. "They represented all the great characteristics that Tyler held true; grit, hard work, and battling through adversity. It was a great day for Blue Hawk Wrestling and the guys really did a great job of wrestling hard and competing at home. I want to thank everyone that helped make this day possible."
