Jamestown, N.D - Dickinson State picked up a huge 81-77 overtime North Star Athletic Association victory over the University of Jamestown Harold Newman Arena on Friday night.
"Very gutsy performance by our team tonight," said head coach Derek Selvig. "Jamestown is a really good basketball team and so well coached. To go into their gym and pull out an overtime win speaks volumes about our group. Very proud of their effort and how together they are playing."
The Blue Hawks, now 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, were led by Kose Egbule, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds. Cordell Stinson was crucial in overtime, scoring six points, while Trey Stevens contributed 15 points, all from three-point range.
The game saw Dickinson State take an early lead, outscoring Jamestown 41-33 in the first half, with John Evans leading the charge with 11 points. However, Jamestown mounted a comeback in the second half, spearheaded by Silas Bennion's 14 points.
Overtime was decided by the Blue Hawks' clutch performance inside, with Stinson's scoring being the difference maker.
Jamestown, now 4-6 and 0-1 in NSAA play, was paced by Anthony Walters with 24 points, while Jimmy Llinas added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Jimmies couldn't secure the win as the Blue Hawks dominated from the free-throw line, shooting 93.3%.
Both teams had shooting struggles, with Dickinson State at 36.4% and Jamestown at slightly better 38.2%, but the game was characterized by numerous lead changes and ties, with the largest lead being 14 points by Dickinson in the second half.
