Three point barrage not enough as DSU falls at Jamestown

Jamestown, N.D. – Cordell Stinson flirted with a triple double, scoring 20 points, gathering 9 rebounds, and dishing 6 assists, but Dickinson State couldn't stop host Jamestown in the second half as the Blue Hawks fell, 95-89, on Saturday.

Trey Stevens and John Evans each added 18 points, and Gus Wright scored 14, as DSU shot 49 percent (17-35) from three on the day, but a 53 percent overall shooting percentage from the host Jimmies was too much to overcome.

Things started well for Dickinson State, leading by as many as 8 in the first half, and they took a 39-35 lead into the halftime break. The Blue Hawks did a lot of their damage in the first half from behind the arc, connecting on 7 three pointers in the first 20 minutes to jump out in front.

In the second half both teams exploded. The two teams combined for 110 points in the final frame, much more in line with the games the teams have played over the last couple of seasons. DSU held the lead with 13 minutes left, but a three point make by the Jimmies gave UJ a lead that they would never relinquish.

Dickinson State will now take an extended break, not returning to action until they head to Billings for the Rocky Mountain Green and Gold Classic December 29-30.
