Blue Hawk men win another overtime thriller, sweep Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic

Butte, Mont. – When head coach Derek Selvig was asked about his team today his response was, "I'm running out of positive adjectives to describe our team!" It was a fitting answer about a suddenly red-hot Blue Hawk team that defeated the University of Providence, 96-88 in overtime, for their third consecutive win.

Cordell Stinson netted his first double-double of the season and six players scored in double figures for the Blue Hawks, led by John Evans with 22 points, as they pulled away from a strong UP squad in the extra five minutes.

Gus Wright had 15 points, Kose Egbule had 13 and Josiah Haaland chipped in 13 off the bench, while Aidan Fishell scored a season-high 17 points as Dickinson State shot a blistering 55 percent from the field to knock off their second straight Frontier Conference opponent.

After trailing 34-32 at the half, the Blue Hawks edged out the Argos 45-43 in the second half to force overtime. In the extra frame it was all Blue Hawks as Fishell poured in seven of his 17 points to lead the way.

"We have smart, tough, and skilled players in this program," added Selvig. "UP shot 44 free throws to our 22, they made tough shots, and never stopped attacking us. Our guys battled and never gave up and it's just a testament to their character. This weekend was special."

The Blue Hawks are starting to gain a bit of a reputation for coming through in tight spots, as they have now won two overtime games in their last three games and withstood a furious comeback from the #6 team in the nation in the other.

Dickinson State will now return home for four consecutive games after spending most of the early season on the road as they host a pair of tournaments in Scott Gymnasium.
