Dickinson, N.D. – Dickinson State improved to 6-1 (5-0 NSAA) on the season with a dominating 49-14 win over Mayville State on Homecoming Saturday at the Biesiot Activities Center.
The Blue Hawks controlled the game the whole day outgaining the Comets 439 yards to 200, including 253-83 on the ground. Braden Zuroff led the Blue Hawk rushing attack with 16 rushes for 110 yards and three touchdowns, while freshman Ty Dassinger made his Blue Hawk debut with 5 carries for 34 yards and his first career touchdown. Quarterback Will Madler went an efficient 15-19 for 168 yards and three touchdowns in the game.
"I'm very proud of the effort and complete game the guys put together," said head coach Pete Stanton. "We started well on offense and kept them to several three and outs early and controlled the clock most of the first half. A great team win in front of a fabulous Homecoming crowd."
DSU got the scoring going early, taking the first drive of the game 75 yards on 14 plays capped off by a 21-yard touchdown run by Zuroff.
A bad snap on a punt attempt by MSU on their ensuing possession set the Blue Hawks up with a short field, and Madler cashed in with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Darion Brown on their first play to make it 14-0 Blue Hawks.
Brown wasn't done finding the endzone yet, as he capped yet another long DSU drive with a 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter to go up 21-0.
Christion Banks made his Blue Hawk debut as well on Saturday and made it one to remember when he connected with Madler for a 15-yard touchdown pass to put DSU ahead 28-0.
Mayville State got on the board for the first time in the second quarter with a 53-yard touchdown pass on their next possession, but the Dickinson State offense continued to roll, getting touchdowns for Zuroff and Dassinger on their next two possessions to put the game out of reach. Zuroff's third touchdown of the day accounted for the lone score for DSU in the second half.
