Blue Hawks hammer Saints on record setting Senior Day

DICKINSON - Dickinson State (8-2, 6-0 NSAA) scored 10 touchdowns and forced seven turnovers, to race past Presentation College (3-8, 2-4 NSAA), 73-16 on a cold November afternoon in Dickinson.

The ten touchdowns scored were one off a school record (11 against Mayville State in 2019), and the 73 points were second most in school history (79 against Mayville State). Following the trend, Dawson McGlothlin pulled in three interceptions which was one off the school record of four (Jay Liggins vs. Northwestern Iowa in 2018). The one record that was broken on the day was Krew Mathern gathering his 17.5 tackle for loss in the first half breaking the single-season DSU record held by Noey Tauave (17 in 2016).

The Blue Hawks scored early and often on Saturday, with Isaiah Kludt taking the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown. It didn't take long for Dickinson State to get the ball back, as Jared Smith recovered a fumble on the Saints first play of the game. Three plays later, Aaron White found Conor McCarvel on a 15-yard touchdown pass making it 12-0 Blue Hawks, and three seniors with a touchdown on senior day through less than two minutes. A Saint three-and-out led to a 55-yard punt return by Kludt setting the DSU offense up with great field position again. Two Braden Zuroff runs later and DSU had a 19-0 lead with 11:28 still left in the first quarter. The next PC possession ended with the first of McGlothlin's three interceptions in the game and Zuroff cashed in for the Blue Hawks on the ensuing possession making it 26-0 DSU still in the first quarter. A 75-yard touchdown run by the Saints on their next play made it 26-6 DSU at the end of the first quarter.

After a PC interception, DSU forced their second fumble of the day and Riley O'Donnell picked it up and ran it all the way back for a 58-yard fumble return touchdown, and making it 33-6 DSU. Once again, Dickinson State got the ball back one play later as McGlothlin intercepted another pass, and that again turned into points when White found McCarvel again for a 22-yard touchdown pass. With 1:40 left in the half, Zuroff found the endzone again from 21 yards out making it 47-6 DSU. DSU wasn't done yet, as three plays later McGlothlin took his third INT of the day 25 yards to the endzone making it 53-8 heading into the half.

The second half scoring began the same way the first half ended when Javonte Oliphant took an interception 35 yards to the house making it 60-8 DSU. Brady Santens scored his second touchdown of the year with 5:37 left in the quarter and Chase Miller added two field goals for the final Blue Hawk scores of the half.

On the day, White went 8-12 for 130 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Conor McCarvel led the DSU receivers with seven catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns, while Zuroff and Darion Brown were a two-headed monster for the Blue Hawks on the ground, rushing for 63 yards and three touchdowns and 90 yards, respectively.
