Blue Hawks take fourth place at NAIA Nationals

Ypsilanti, Mich. – The Dickinson State competitive cheer team earned fourth place at the NAIA National Championships for the second year in a row on Saturday. The Blue Hawks finished with a final round score of 89.13. The Blue Hawks entered the final round sitting in second place after a preliminary round score of 89.83, but several teams were able to leapfrog them with outstanding final round performances.

"Our Blue Hawk cheer team did an amazing job representing the University, community, and supporters," said head coach Cebe Schneider. "We ended our first day in second place, and then we made some improvements on day two, but we also had a building fall that cost us a half point deduction and some execution points. Considering the caliber of teams that were on the floor competing, it is absolutely phenomenal to have earned fourth place in the nation. We are grateful to our families and supporters who traveled to cheer us on, and to all of those who encouraged us as we competed from back home and around the nation. We were especially touched that Dickinson State University departments, administration, and students created a video to wish us luck as we competed. That had a smiling the entire time. It's been a pleasure and an honor to coach this talented group of athletes, and to represent our university at nationals. Hawks are up!"

It has been an outstanding two-year run for the Blue Hawk cheer team, finishing in fourth place at the national level in consecutive years. They will now turn to next season to see if they can keep up the outstanding work.
