Kansas City, Kan. – Dickinson State dropped two games in Kansas City, falling to William Penn and Concordia (Neb.) on Friday.
In the first game, Dickinson State struggled to contain William Penn's offense, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits in a 7-inning contest. The Blue Hawks trailed early, giving up five runs in the first two innings. Luis Rodriguez put Dickinson State on the board in the second with an RBI single that scored John-Michael Gonzalez Jr. Cameron Erickson followed with an RBI single to bring home Rodriguez, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
William Penn added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, including a two-run homer, to extend its lead to 9-2. Dickinson State responded in the sixth when Moses Dokes hit a sacrifice fly to score Wyatt Wilharm. Rodriguez followed with an RBI double, bringing in Ty Farwell to make it 9-4.
The Blue Hawks could not keep pace as William Penn added two more in the seventh, securing an 11-4 victory. Logan Smith took the loss, allowing two earned runs in one-third of an inning. Trent Richter pitched four innings, surrendering five earned runs, while Noah Aliff and Trapper Oster finished the game on the mound.
In the second game against Concordia (Neb.), Dickinson State came up short in a 2-1 loss despite a strong pitching performance from Jacob Scully. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits and two earned runs over six innings while striking out six.
Concordia took the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run. Dickinson State answered in the sixth when Wilharm delivered an RBI single, scoring Jadyn Roberts. The Blue Hawks threatened in the seventh but could not push across the tying run.
Scully's performance kept Dickinson State within striking distance, but the offense managed just five hits. Wilharm, Roberts, Jace Buchanan, Gonzalez, and Rodriguez each had one hit.
