Blue Hawks take down NCAA D2 UMary in midweek action

Bismarck, N.D. – Dickinson State got a 2-4 day with a home run and 4 RBI from Carlos Molina Jr. and 15 strikeouts across nine different pitchers to upset NCAA Division II University of Mary on Tuesday in Bismarck.

The Blue Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to three straight hits from Kaiden Reeve, Wyatt Wilharm, and Molina Jr. and never surrendered their advantage.

Molina Jr. added to the lead with a big three-run home run to right field in the third inning, and Nathaniel Jilek drove in the final run of the game with an inside-the-park home run to right field in the fourth.

Patrick Dietz was credited with the win after starting the game and going two innings with just one hit and three strikeouts. Cooper Van Luchene, Logan Smith, Anthony Hanson, Michael Wishowski, Ezekiel Dokes, and Moses Dokes then combined for six innings of scoreless relief allowing only two hits, both in the seventh inning.

Trevor Ball got the first two outs of the ninth inning before UMary rallied for four runs and the Blue Hawks turned to closer Trent Chavez to get the final out.

"Our pitchers did a tremendous job today," said head coach Michael Dahl. "They threw the ball well and our offense did enough damage early to win the game. We will now try and carry this momentum into a big conference series this weekend at Dakota State."
