Blue Hawks drop series to nationally-ranked Bellevue

Bellevue, Neb. – Dickinson State held tough against nationally-ranked Bellevue but dropped all four games of their North Star Athletic Association series.

Game One – BU 9 DSU 6

Dickinson State held leads of 4-2 and 6-5, but #15 Bellevue scored seven runs over the final three innings to take game one 9-6.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, DSU answered back with four runs of their own over the next three innings, capped by a solo home run from Keanu Calamayan.

Blue Hawk starter Trent Richter strung together three straight scoreless innings to keep DSU in front, but Bellevue finally broke through in the fifth when they scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead.

DSU immediately responded, as Alberto Nieto doubled, and Wyatt Wilharm homered to left field to take the lead right back 6-5.

That was all the Blue Hawks would get however, as Bellevue scored the final four runs of the game and held DSU without a hit to earn the victory.

Game Two – BU 15 DSU 3

Dickinson State answered a three-run top of the first by Bellevue with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, but the Bruins responded with 12 unanswered runs for the mercy-rule victory in game two.

An RBI single by Calamayan and an RBI double by Kaiden Reeve accounted for all the DSU runs as the Blue Hawks managed just five hits while allowing Bellevue to gather 18 hits over seven innings.

Anthony Hanson threw a pair of scoreless innings for DSU, allowing just two hits over the last two innings to keep the Bruins from really running away.

Game Three – BU 8 DSU 1

DSU was held to just one run, from a Luke Clinton sacrifice fly, on two hits as they fell 8-1 in a chilly game three on Friday.

The Blue Hawks worked four walks and got hit by a pitch, getting BU starter Blake Crippen on the ropes multiple times, but were unable to get the big hit despite striking out just four times.

Game Four – BU 12 DSU 2

Alberto Nieto went 2-3 with an RBI, but Bellevue used a pair of five-run innings to earn the eight-inning mercy rule win in game four.

Jackson Schaubel, Trevor Ball, and Trent Chavez combined for 4.1 innings of one run relief, working around 4 hits in a solid effort out of the bullpen.
