Blue Hawks can't slow down #9 Belleuve

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Nationally ranked Bellevue had the bats going on Sunday as Dickinson State couldn't keep up with the #9 Bruins, falling in both games of the double header, 21-7 and 11-2.

GAME 1

Despite four home runs, the Blue Hawks couldn't keep up with the potent Bellevue attack, as the Bruins used seven extra base hits and took advantage of four DSU errors, for a 21-7 game one victory.

After the Bruins put up 5 runs in the bottom of the second inning, Dawson Cortese connected for a three-run home run in the top of the third to get DSU to back within two. Cortese's blast scored Cade Ostenson and Balas Buckmaster who had reached on a walk and a single, respectively, to start the inning.

Not to be outdone, the Bruins added five more runs in the bottom of the third inning to push their lead to seven. Richie Cortese homered with one out in the fourth to make it 10-4, but a seven-run fifth inning by the Bruins put the game out of reach. DSU did add on three more runs on home runs by Richie Cortese, his second of the day, and pinch hitter Jacob Clinton, but it wasn't enough to stop the seven inning mercy rule.

GAME 2

Dickinson State jumped out to an early lead for the third time in the series in game two, but again the powerful bats of Bellevue erased that lead and cruised to an 11-2 victory.

Keanu Calamayan started the game with a single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alberto Nieto. Buckmaster then singled to right field to bring him home and give DSU the early 1-0 lead.

Buckmaster drilled a home run to the opposite field in the third inning to make it 2-0 Blue Hawks, but an eight-run fourth inning that included three home runs swung the game to BU as they added in three more runs in the final innings.
