Bio

David Murphy is the lead strength and conditioning specialist for Sanford SPORTS and the director of strength and conditioning for Dickinson State University, where he oversees the performance training for all DSU student-athletes. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Before coming to DSU, David was at North Dakota State University first as a paid intern for the academic year of 2019-2020. He then accepted the graduate assistant position where he was responsible for training wrestling, track & field, men’s golf, and softball while receiving his Master’s degree in Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science in the spring of 2022.

Before accepting his position at NDSU, David completed multiple volunteer internships working within NDSU and Sanford SPORTS, respectively, gaining knowledge and hands on experience of on the floor coaching.

David received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Performance and Fitness, with an emphasis on strength and conditioning in the fall of 2018 from Northern State University. While completing his degree, David also competed at the Division II level in wrestling and track & field for five years. Within that time frame, David was an Academic All-American for Wolves Wrestling. For track and field, David was a three-time All-Conference winner for the Wolves placing 3rd as a freshmen, 1st as a Junior, and 2nd as a senior.

David is proudly from Fort Yates, North Dakota which is located in the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. There he competed in every sport he could gaining the honor of becoming an All-State wrestler and javelin thrower for Standing Rock High School.
