Jamestown, N.D. - Dickinson State fell short against Jamestown, 78-67, in a North Star Athletic Association matchup Friday night in Jamestown, N.D. The Blue Hawks opened strong, outscoring the Jimmies 22-18 in the first quarter, but were unable to maintain their lead as Jamestown surged in the second quarter with a 23-11 advantage to take control of the game.
Kayden Steele led Dickinson State with 15 points, shooting 7-of-18 from the field, and added four rebounds. Samantha Oase contributed a double-digit performance with 10 points and six rebounds, while Tinley Pierson added eight points and four boards. Katherine Fox was active on the glass, pulling down five rebounds to go along with her four points and three assists.
Dickinson State shot 43.5% from the field (27-of-62), but struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 4-of-17 (23.5%). The Blue Hawks were efficient from the free-throw line, hitting 9-of-13 attempts (69.2%). Despite outscoring Jamestown 40-16 in the paint, Dickinson State couldn't overcome the Jimmies' strong perimeter shooting.
Jamestown capitalized on their three-point opportunities, making 15-of-39 (38.5%), which proved to be the difference in the contest. Dickinson State managed to force 15 turnovers, scoring 22 points off those miscues, but Jamestown's bench provided a boost with 23 points compared to Dickinson State's 18.
Rebounding was nearly even, with Jamestown holding a slight 36-35 edge. The Blue Hawks were strong on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards, which led to eight second-chance points. However, Jamestown managed 15 second-chance points from 11 offensive rebounds.
After the strong opening quarter, Dickinson State struggled to find consistency, shooting 45.5% in the second quarter, followed by 40% in the third and 37.5% in the fourth. The Jimmies, conversely, improved as the game progressed, highlighted by a 58.3% shooting performance in the final quarter.
